Compass Rose Commission

compass roseThe Anglican Communion uses the compass rose as its symbol, signifying its worldwide reach and decentralized nature. It is surmounted, like ecclesiastical coats of arms, by a bishop's mitre; in the center is a cross of St. George recalling the communion's origins in the Church of England. The Greek motto, h alhqeia eleuqerwsei umas ("The truth will set you free") is a quotation from John 8:32. It was designed by Edward Nason West, Canon of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.

The St. Peter's Compass Rose Commission seeks to study the mission ministry in the parish, and to encourage the congregation to become missionaries both at home and abroad. The name was taken from the compass rose which represents the reach of the Gospel of Christ to the ends of the earth.

The Compass Rose Commission at St. Peter's acts to coordinate and support our short term missionary trips and to raise up disciples to go forth into the world . The Compass Rose Commission explores the overall purpose of the trip, helps the missionaries set goals, and coordinates prayer support from the parish.

The annual St. Peter's Mission Conference and the Mission Trip Dinners are a wonderful way to get involved and to stay in touch with our mission programs. We invite you to get involved with this wonderful parish life ministry!

If you’re wondering . . . The Compass Rose Commission is the group that charts the course for missions at St. Peter’s. They establish policies and procedures, and approve the allocation of mission funding. If you ever plan any kind of mission trip that you’d like to be associated with our church, your first step is to make a proposal to Compass Rose.
