Ethne

Ethne logoEthne Mission Networking and Equipping is a Tallahassee-based ministry working to see the Church fully engaged in effective, coomperative mission, locally and globally.  We believe that by connecting the Church to reach the World we can help create a synergy that will allow the Church in Tallahassee to accomplish more for the kingdom of God than isolated congregations can ever dream of.

Our name says it best. “Ethne” (Greek for “peoples” or “nations”) indicates our ultimate focus is all of the unreached peoples of the earth. “Mission” says that, while the internal dynamics of church life (fellowship, education, worship, etc.) are crucial, our passion is seeing the Church move into the whole world - across the room, across the street and across the ocean. Our ministry activities are “networking” (gathering churches together around a common mission vision) and “equipping” (teaching, consulting and coaching congregations into effective mission).

Fr. Jim Hobby, Shari HobbyShari and I have accepted a call to serve Trinity as Rector (me) and Vicar (Shari). We believe that God is "joining our paths for a season" as the Sr. Warden here put it. We are excited about the emerging vision of Trinity being a hub of creative, apostolic mission in Southwest Georgia as well as being active in global mission. Since the call to Trinity is for part-time ministry (2/3 time for each of us), we will continue our ministry with Ethne (about which Trinity is quite excited).

Join us in rejoicing and keep us in your prayers.

Peace,

Jim

As of the beginning of 2007, Fr. Jim Hobby has been a follower of Jesus for 35 years, a husband for 26, a father for 23 and a priest for 20. He and his wife, Shari, have three daughters, Elizabeth, Katherine and Angela. He graduated from Wheaton College with a B.A. in Christian Education, attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for two years and received his M.Div. from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry. Bishop Alden Hathaway ordained him as a deacon and later as a priest in 1986. He has served parishes in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Florida. From 2005 to 2007 he was Missionary in Residence at St. Peter's Anglican Church, in Tallahassee, Florida, and is now Rector at Trinity Anglican Church in Thomasville, Georgia (a partner parish of St. Peter's). Fr. Hobby enjoys reading, teaching and intense theological discussions. He runs regularly and participates in team sports whenever possible (what he lacks in skills he makes up for in intensity!). His greatest satisfaction, however, comes through relaxed time with his family.

Mtr. Shari Hobby was born as the 6th of 8 kids to a Wycliffe Bible Translator missionary family in Guatemala. Mtr. Shari attended Wheaton College (IL) and Trinity School for Ministry (PA), and spent 14 years as a clergy spouse before being ordained by Bishop Stephen Jecko in 2000. Married to Fr. Jim Hobby in 1980, they love to work on “keeping a great thing going” in their marriage. Mtr. Shari is the mom of three daughters who are her delight, joy and amazement: Elizabeth Joy, 23; Katherine Marie, 20; and Angela Grace, 16. Currently, Mtr. Shari wears three “job” hats: a Priest in Residence at Trinity Anglican Church in Thomasville, GA, a Chaplain at Big Bend Hospice, and a Co-Director (with husband, Fr. Jim) of Ethne Networking and Equipping (www.EthneOnline.org). Mtr. Shari likes listening to novels on tape (while out walking or doing housework), computer games, playing board games and being with family and friends.
