For several years, St. Peter's has hosted a divinity student from Duke Divinity School, for the summer, to give him or her practical experience in the operation of a large parish. St. Peter’s serves as a teaching parish for students from Duke University Divinity School. The student is placed with us in the summer for ten weeks and participates in the life and ministry of St. Peter’s. Working under the supervision of St. Peter’s clergy and Carol Long, our Fellow's are able to experience parish ministry in its fullness so as to be better able to discern his or her calling. This year we are honored to expand our program to include Seminarians from Trinity School for Ministry.
2010 Duke Fellow and Trinity Fellows
This year, in addition to the Duke Fellow, we’ll also host two seminarians from Trinity School for Ministry. The Duke Fellow is Zac Koons, and the Trinity Fellows are a married couple, Bo and Lilly Ubbens.
Zac Koons
Bachelor, Biblical and Theological Studies, Wheaton College, IL
Zachary “Zac” Gunnar Koons comes from Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and majored in Biblical and Theological Studies at Wheaton College (IL), where he also played varsity soccer for four years. A year abroad where he studied theology and church history in Israel, Turkey, Greece, and Rome was especially meaningful and influential for Zac. He has completed his first year at Duke Divinity School. Zac loves bluegrass and folk music, and listens to a lot of Ryan Adams. He also loves being outside, biking and playing as much soccer as possible. His intellectual influences include N.T. Wright, C.S. Lewis, Karl Barth, and John Howard Yoder, and he considers Lewis’s The Great Divorce the best book he’s ever read. He drinks a lot of coffee - they’ll know Zac well at RedEye!

Masters in Systematic Theology, Trinity School for Ministry
Lilly Sanders Ubbens is the daughter of missionaries; her father is an Anglican priest. Her early years were spent in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. After graduation, she took creative writing workshops in New York City, then worked at Hubbard House, a battered women’s shelter in Jacksonville. In 2007, Lilly had an encounter with the Lord, and became dedicated to serving God and His people. She was active in her church in youth ministry, and worked as a lay counselor and healing prayer intercessor.
