For several years during the summer, St. Peter's has hosted a divinity student from Duke Divinity School to give him or her practical experience in the operation of a large parish. Now, St. Peter’s serves not only as a teaching parish for students from Duke University Divinity School, but also Trinity School for Ministry and Nashotah House Theological Seminary. The student is placed with us in the summer for ten weeks and participates in the life and ministry of St. Peter’s. Working under the supervision of St. Peter’s clergy and Carol Long, our Fellows are able to experience parish ministry in its fullness so as to be better able to discern his or her calling.

In 2011, we host one fellow each from Duke Divinity School , Trinity School for Ministry and Nashotah House.

Joe Ananias,  Duke Fellow
Bachelor, Biblical Studies Major and Music Minor, Moody Bible Institute

Joseph “Joe” Daniel Ananias is from Peoria, Illinois, and has just completed his first year at Duke Divinity School. Joe completed his undergraduate degree at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, where he majored in Biblical Studies and minored in music. Throughout his time in Chicago, Joe was formed by active participation in his church’s ministry to the poor and homeless in its neighborhood, as well as active involvement in the church’s music ministry. Joe loves life in Durham, NC, where he enjoys regular homemade meals with friends and participates in a regular open-invitation event called “folk-night,” where friends gather in a fire-lit living room to perform songs, stories, and poems for one another. Intellectually, Joe has been most influenced by Sam Wells, N.T. Wright, and Karl Barth. Joe attends Church of the Holy Cross in Raleigh, NC, and was confirmed there this spring.

Wesley Anderson,  Trinity Fellow
Bachelor, English Literature Major and Philosophy Minor, University of North Florida

Wesley James Anderson was raised in Jacksonville Florida where he graduated from the University of North Florida in 2009. During his time at UNF he spent two semesters away studying at Boyce College in Louisville KY which would later confirm his desire to attend seminary after college. Wesley was introduced to Trinity School for Ministry at the 2010 New Wineskins Conference in Ridgecrest, NC where his family has spent time almost every summer at the family cabin and where Wesley has enjoyed hiking and exploring the outdoors since childhood. Wesley was drawn to the Anglican Church in the fall of 2009 and has felt at home ever since. He has enjoyed living life in the Trinity community for the past two semesters where he continues to seek clarification of his calling. He enjoys playing guitar and singing, mostly folk music, sharing meals with friends and listening to and getting to know people. He has truly missed long walks on the beach (clichés are cliché for a reason). Last summer Wesley spent some time in Israel with a group from his home parish led by Bishop Lebhar and others. This trip has been influential in the way he understands the Scriptures and the Christian faith. Wesley is excited to be at St. Peter’s and hopes to further discern his calling through his time with you here this summer.

Forrest Tucker, Nashotah Fellow
Junior, Master of Divinity, Nashotah House Theological Seminary, Nashotah WI

Forrest Glenn Tucker comes from Spokane, Washington, growing up in the general vicinity of this second largest city of Washington state with 10 siblings. His father was a Nazarene turned Free Methodist turned Presbyterian/Reformed pastor, and his father's journey into what he believed is what inspired Forrest, after marrying his beautiful wife Rebekah in 2002, to start on his own journey seeking where God would have him serve. He felt a call into ministry in his late teens/early twenties, and fought the call for one reason or another, but ultimately because it was not just the ministry God was calling him to, but also a particular tradition. So after continuing their journey from the Reformed church to the Lutheran church, he and his family visited Christ the King Anglican of Spokane for the first time in 2008 and felt like they had come home. Soon after their first Sunday, Forrest approached Fr. Jerry, the rector of CtK, about his call to the priesthood and so began the process of discernment and Confirmation that culminated in becoming a Postulant for Holy Orders in the Diocese of Western Anglicans, ACNA, and moving his family from Spokane to Nashotah to enter as a Junior last fall in the MDiv program. His interests include: Christian music from early cantillation to contemporary artists, mountain biking and hiking, and reading history and theology, and while Seminary life (and the absence of mountains in Wisconsin) has hampered his outdoor pursuits, he has been privileged over the last year to learn a little of the music, history and theology of the Church in general and our great tradition in particular.

St. Peter's shield - small 2010 Duke Fellow and Trinity Fellows

This year, in addition to the Duke Fellow, we also hosted two seminarians from Trinity School for Ministry. The Duke Fellow is Zac Koons, and the Trinity Fellows are a married couple, Bo and Lilly Ubbens.

Zac KoonsZac Koons
Bachelor, Biblical and Theological Studies, Wheaton College, IL

Zachary “Zac” Gunnar Koons comes from Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and majored in Biblical and Theological Studies at Wheaton College (IL), where he also played varsity soccer for four years. He has completed his first year at Duke Divinity School. Zac loves bluegrass and folk music, and listens to a lot of Ryan Adams. He also loves being outside, biking and playing as much soccer as possible. His intellectual influences include N.T. Wright, C.S. Lewis, Karl Barth, and John Howard Yoder, and he considers Lewis’s The Great Divorce the best book he’s ever read. He drinks a lot of coffee - they’ll know Zac well at RedEye!
