Foreign Missions

The purpose of St. Peter’s Foreign Mission Ministry is to build up the Church around the world / beyond the boundaries of Tallahassee and to mobilize the people and resources of St. Peter’s to respond.

We provide opportunities for people to experience and respond to a call for missions and integrate missions into the life of the church so people have a global perspective of the Kingdom.

St. Peter's shield - small Missionaries

St. Peter's also has opportunities for parishioners to be long-term missionaries (several months) "living out God's Word in the greater world.".  If you are so called check out the blogs of ongoing and past long-term missionaries and follow up with Jill Ashoo (jill@saint-peters.net).

St. Peter's shield - small Missions Advisory Committee

compass roseThe Anglican Communion uses the compass rose as its symbol, signifying its worldwide reach and decentralized nature. It is surmounted, like ecclesiastical coats of arms, by a bishop's mitre; in the center is a cross of St. George recalling the communion's origins in the Church of England. The Greek motto, h alhqeia eleuqerwsei umas ("The truth will set you free") is a quotation from John 8:32. It was designed by Edward Nason West, Canon of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:14-15

In 2009, St. Peter's replaced the Compass Rose Commission with the Missions Advisory Committee that is responsible for the shaping of mission at St. Peter's in a need to streamline the structure for the sake of clearer communication.

Jill Ashoo, Director of Missions and Outreach, will work with three primary advisers, one for Cuba, one for Uganda and one for Guatemala. Each adviser would also be a sounding board for all three missions and the contact person before planning a trip.

The members of the Advisory Committee are as follows:

  • John Medina representing Cuba
  • Andy Wong representing Uganda
  • Scottie Whiddon representing Guatemala.

They will coordinate with the Director of Missions and Outreach to see the “larger picture” as they serve our foreign missions in the name of Jesus Christ.

If you have any questions or concerns during this transition time, please don't hesitate to contact Jill Ashoo, at ext. 21 or jill@saint-peters.net.
