1 Corinthians 2:6-10 – Paul’s Reliance upon the Spirit

In this letter, Paul is telling that our wisdom comes not from our intellect, but from the Spirit of God.

Every Sunday we acknowledge that we worship the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; but, how does the Spirit fit with our beliefs, lives and worship? The Spirit is not only “one with God”, but He is also an integral personal part of every Christian. He comes with a mind, feelings and a will that He integrates so we are one with Him.

His primary purpose is to bring chaos into order. As Genesis 1:2 says: “The spirit of God was moving over the space of the waters”, which describes how the physical world became ordered; but, He is also turning our lives into the spiritual order of a faithful believer. He changes our heart by steering our mind which knows new understanding, our emotions becoming excited and fulfilled by our faith, and our will is turning in a direction toward a purposeful God.

Philippians 2:13 says: “For God is at work in you to will and to work for his good pleasure.” The Spirit is there to guide us through every day. We need to pray, listen and study so our mind, emotions, and our will can move in the same direction as God's and we become faithful Christians.

When chaos appears in my life, I have found that if I will just listen to the Spirit of God that is always within me, I can find the right path. He speaks in so many ways: a verse from the Bible, or a spoken word, a sermon, during prayer or just knowing what to do when you finally stop and listen to Him.

Living Out Lent: During Lent and always, we rejoice in knowing that “The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God which empowers us to bear witness to the King.”
