Welcome Chris Garvin!
St. Peter’s Church is overjoyed to welcome Christopher Garven as our new Director of Music. Chris comes to us with a rich career in sacred music, a career highlighted by building many strong church music programs and leading them boldly in the praise and worship of God. Chris graduated from Philadelphia Biblical University with Bachelor’s degrees in both Bible and Organ Performance and has a Masters degree in Music from Westminster Choir College. Chris has given organ recitals all over the world, has an impressive record of performance with musical groups such as the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, and longs to develop a national music ministry within the newly formed Anglican Church in North America. Chris has most recently been the Director of Music for a large parish in Philadelphia, but has blessed us by moving his family, including wife Deborah (an accomplished musician in her own right) and six children (including newborn twins!), to sunny Tallahassee to join in the work God is doing at St. Peter’s. Come join him as he leads our music program into a bright future, where many voices and instruments join together in praise and honor of our God!
“Let my mouth be full of your praise and your glory all the day long.”~ Psalm 71:8
Singing God’s praise and offering our worship both empowers and strengthens the Church. Indeed, the congregation itself is the largest choir in our Church – and,as Scripture tells us, we are always encouraged to sing our wonderful hymns with all the might, vigor, and enthusiasm that we can offer... the “first fruits” of our hearts and voices! If you would like to take this even a step further by joining a choir or offering instrumental music during worship, your participation in music at St. Peter’s is most warmly welcomed!
If you are interested in serving in the music ministry in any capacity, please contact Chris, Director of Music, at 701-0664, ext. 28 or via email at chris@saint-peters.net.
“Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous; it is good for the just to sing praises.” Psalm 33:1
How can I help?
-
Join a choir, or invite your children to join the Beginning Choir or Choristers (Many studies clearly demonstrate the great and lasting academic benefits of musical training for children… but even greater are the spiritual benefits!)
-
Donate the gift of music! Musical scores for choir anthems may be given in honor or in memory of a loved one. Or, offer a gift that enhances our worship by making a donation to have instrumentalists in our services!
-
Offer to play instrumental music during worship services.
-
Be a “choir angel” – come in on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to clean out choir folders and file music
