What does it mean to be a Christian?
An alternative course for Phase 1 of the Catechumenate
Sundays, January 29 - April 1
6:30-8:30 pm
Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense was written by Bishop Tom Wright, Bishop of Durham (England) and one of the world’s most highly regarded New Testament scholars. Making use of this book and video segments featuring Bishop Tom, this class explores themajor features of the Christian faith, the Trinity, Jesus, Jesus’ death and resurrection, the Holy Spirit, the Church as God’s people, the nature of Christian worship and prayer, Holy Scripture and the new creation. This class may be taken in addition to Alpha, in place of Alpha or simply for personal growth. All adults and high school students are welcome. Participants will need to purchase a copy of Simply Christian for the class. To register, contact Fr. Michael Petty at mpetty@saint-peters.net. Check out www.saint-peters.net/simplychristian for more information.
- (Alpha is an alternative course for Phase 1 of the Catechumenate, which will return on September 2012.)
Introducing Anglicanism
Phase 2 of the Catechumenate: What does it mean to be an Anglican?
6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Church
Introducing Anglicanism is designed to introduce people to the Anglican tradition of belief and worship. It is especially helpful for those who want to understand what Anglicanism is and the events and people which have shaped it. The class is also helpful for people who have come to St. Peter’s from other Christian traditions. To register for Introducing Anglicanism, contact Fr.Michael Petty 701-0664, ext. 19 or mpetty@saint-peters.net.
Newcomer Brunch
Join the St. Peter’s clergy, staff and vestry members for an afternoon of fellowship and great food! We want to welcome you into our parish family! The Rector's Roundtable is cancelled today as the Newcomers Brunch serves this purpose. Childcare is provided with reservation. To sign up, contact Katherine Nerona-Balog at 701-0664, ext. 15 or katherine@saint-peters.net.
Network
Phase 3 of the Catechumenate: How can I build up the Body of Christ?
9:00 a.m. - Noon in the Parish Hall
Network is designed to help each person discover his or her own spiritual gifts so that those gifts can be used in the life of the parish or beyond. Having discovered their God-given skills, participants can then become effectively involved in meaningful ministry. To register and download the required assessments for Network, visit our website at www.saint-peters.net/network or contact Katherine Nerona-Balog at 701-0664, ext. 15 or katherine@saint-peters.net. Childcare provided with reservation.
St. Peter's 101: Nuts and Bolts of Liturgy
7:00 - 8:30 pm in the church
Why do Anglicans do the things we do in the liturgy? In this class, Fr. Eric Dudley will answer the questions everyone asks: Why do we wear vestments? Why do we cross ourselves? Why do we bow our heads when the cross passes in procession? What does the Eucharist really mean? These and dozens of other questions will be dealt with in a real show-and-tell teaching about worship in the Anglican tradition. Great for visitors and newcomers, and equally helpful for longtime Anglicans who want a deeper appreciation of worship.
